Jenny “JJ” Brake
CERTIFIED PARENT EDUCATOR
Where are you from?
Originally from Tallahassee, Florida, I moved to LA 12 years ago to "try it out"… and have lived here ever since.
How did you get into this line of work?
After my first child was born, well, life looked a little different. I realized parenting wasn't nearly as easy as I thought it would be and I began dedicating my life to learning everything there is to know about child and family dynamics through the lens of nonviolence. I am now a Certified Teacher of Nonviolent Parenting and Education through Echo Parenting and have been teaching in-home private parenting classes since 2009. Being a mother of three children offers me insight into the challenges that parenting can bring on a daily basis. After obtaining ECE (Early Childhood Education) credits, I became a parent/teacher at a co-op preschool for six years, helping support a yard of 24 children and helping each child with conflict resolution while guiding the children to build their social and emotional intellegence. I am currently in training to receive my MFT from Pacific Oaks. Through my knowledge of neuroscience, child development and therapy, I offer parent coaching in a way that will encourage empathy and build life long family relationships based on love, trust and connection.
What is your favorite baked good?
I sure do love chocolate peanut butter cups, and have considered taking chocolate bribes instead of money.
Do you have a favorite quote you would like to share?
"Power is of two kinds. One is obtained by the fear of punishment and the other by acts of love. Power based on love is a thousand times more effective and permanent then the one derived from fear of punishment." – Mahatma Gandhi
JJ co-teaches our Childbirth Education Classes, facilitates GraceFull's parenting classes and also offers private one-on-one parenting coaching sessions.
